Jacky Pearson

Taylor-Jensen Fine Arts continues to celebrate its 20th Anniversary (Founded 1997 and opened 2nd August of that year) by showcasing the art work of local and regional artists which has brought the gallery to prominence within the Central Districts of the North Island. Continuing this trend the gallery presents Land and Water: Watercolours by Jacky Pearson an exhibition of 20 watercolours by this multi-award winning professional artist and tutor. Her ‘soft’ use of the watercolour medium has enamoured her work to a wide audience. Although she is based in the Wairarapa, Pearson travels world-wide presenting master classes. This exhibition will feature a diverse series of paintings from many of the aspects of this full-time artist’s life. From a grazing horse to a busy night street scene to the magic connection between mother and child and from a quiet babbling brook to majestic New Zealand landscapes, all these images and more are sure to elicit interest in Jacky Pearson’s oeuvre. Land and Water will open with a reception for the artist on September 8th at the gallery from 5-7pm. The public is warmly invited to meet the artist and view her latest work. The exhibition will continue through 4th October.

Jacky Pearson is fascinated by light and atmosphere which is the driving force for her paintings. While she specialises in watercolours, of which she says: “I love the sense of freedom and spontaneity which this medium does best;” oils, pastels and charcoal are also a frequent part of her work. Jacky has painted since childhood although she pursued a career in soil conservation.  She now works as a full-time artist. Self-taught, Jacky has attended workshops with some of the world’s top watercolour artists. “I believe that anyone who wants to can paint and express themselves. It is the desire that creates the talent, the rest is just hard work and some good tuition!”

Ms Pearson exhibits in galleries and art shows around New Zealand; in 2016 she was the guest artist at the FADAS Expo.  She also teaches regular classes in the Hutt Valley and holds regular workshops and masterclasses in New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom and Holland. Jacky has also taught in Belgium, India and Greece. Her work is held in private and public collections world-wide. She has won numerous awards including twice winning the Raye Hannan Memorial Trophy at the NZ Royal Easter Show. Pearson’s artwork has also been selected twice for inclusion in the North American book SPLASH representing the Best of International Watercolours, 2011 and 2015. Paintings by Ms Pearson have also been featured in international and New Zealand magazines, books and calendars. An Australian film company filmed Jacky painting a portrait for the ‘Colour in Your Life’ TV shows. Jacky has recently worked with a Dutch company to create on-line tuition for ‘Watercolour University’ (Aquerelacademie.nl). Ten step-by-step tutorials were produced on the subjects of painting water and boats. Jacky has also won a Gordon Harris NZ Online Watercolour Award.
